THE JOINT ADMISSION AND MATRICULATION BOARD JAMB ANNOUNCE NEW NOVEL FOR ALL CANDIDATES WHO ARE WRITING THE 2017 UTME EXAMINATION.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, wishes to inform all prospective candidates for this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) that a new book has been approved for the exam.
Candidates are to note that irrespective of their choice of course of study or method of testing, they will all be tested on a general text, “In Dependence” by Sarah Ladipo Manyika.
The book will be supplied at the point of registration after candidates had obtained the JAMB e-registration PIN (at the cost of N5,000 plus additional N500 for the book).
This year’s reading text was published in the United Kingdom (UK) in 2008, in Nigeria in 2009 and in the United States in 2011. It is Sarah Ladipo Manyika’s first novel.
The novel begins in the early 1960s when Tayo Ajayi meets Vanessa Richardson, the beautiful daughter of an ex-colonial officer.
Their story, which spans three continents and four turbulent decades, is that of a brave but bittersweet love affair. It is the story of individuals struggling to find their place within uncertain political times – a story of passion and idealism, courage and betrayal.
Questions from the novel will appear in the English Language paper during the UTME and it is compulsory for every candidate.
Recall that the reading text for last year’s UTME was “The Last Days at Forcados High School” by A.H. Mohammed. The book will now be used to test Direct Entry (DE) candidates this year.
